Structure, Connection & Action: A Framework for Stronger Nonprofit Boards

In this practical session, Dr. Renee Rubin Ross of The Ross Collective shared a framework for strengthening nonprofit board effectiveness through three key areas: Structure, Connection & Action. Participants explored how these three elements work together to support stronger, more engaged boards and reflected on where their own boards may need additional attention. Dr. Ross also shared concrete practices organizations can use to strengthen each area and encouraged participants to identify actionable next steps they can bring back to their board leadership. This recording offers nonprofit leaders, staff, and board members a practical way to assess board performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and build stronger board practices during times of uncertainty and change. The session draws on The Ross Collective’s work in board development and governance, including its experience facilitating nonprofit board retreats and helping organizations build more effective and connected boards.
