State of the East Bay Nonprofit Sector Survey

Help Us Tell the Story of East Bay Nonprofits

Nonprofits are essential to the health, strength, and resilience of our East Bay communities. Every day, organizations across the region provide critical services, strengthen neighborhoods, support families, create opportunities, and respond to some of our communities’ most pressing challenges.

But we need stronger local data to tell the story of our nonprofit sector.

Tri-Valley Nonprofit Alliance (TVNPA) is conducting our first-ever State of the East Bay Nonprofit Sector Survey to better understand the current health, challenges, needs, and outlook of nonprofit organizations throughout the Tri-Valley and broader East Bay.

If you are a nonprofit leader in the East Bay, we want to hear from you.

Why This Survey Matters

Nonprofit leaders know firsthand what organizations are experiencing. Demand for services continues to grow. Funding is increasingly challenging. Staffing remains difficult. Operating costs are rising. Organizations are being asked to accomplish more, often with fewer resources.

Local data can help us demonstrate these realities and advocate for what nonprofits need to thrive.

TVNPA will compile survey findings into a State of the East Bay Nonprofit Sector report and share the findings back with the nonprofit community.

Our goal is to create data that nonprofits and their partners can use to:

  • Strengthen grant proposals and fundraising efforts
  • Inform conversations with funders and philanthropic partners
  • Advocate with elected officials and government agencies
  • Support board and strategic planning conversations
  • Identify shared challenges and emerging needs
  • Help community leaders better understand the nonprofit sector’s impact and realities

Who Should Participate?

We are seeking one response per nonprofit organization.

The survey should be completed by an Executive Director, CEO, COO, senior manager, or another individual with a strong understanding of the organization’s programs, finances, staffing, and operations.

  • You do not need to be a TVNPA member to participate.
  • Responses may be anonymous, and estimates are completely acceptable.
  • The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
  • Deadline: Friday, August 28, 2026

Help Us Reach the East Bay Nonprofit Community

The strength of this research depends on hearing from nonprofits of different sizes, missions, communities, and service areas throughout the East Bay.

Please share this survey with nonprofit organizations, coalitions, associations, and networks in your community.

The more organizations we hear from, the stronger our collective voice becomes.

Together, we can build a clearer picture of the East Bay nonprofit sector and create data that helps all of us advocate for stronger organizations and stronger communities.
